HeadTracker: XIAO BLE Sense

XIAO BLE Sense board with Head Tracker firmware flashed and functionality verified.

Unlike other head trackers, this firmware does not require manual calibration as it does not rely on magnetometer for operation. On-the-fly constant automatic calibration minimizes drift or even eliminates it completely. We believe machines shall do the work  and do not bother humans with petty annoying tasks like calibration. This frees your time for fun things, e.g. flying your awesome FPV plane or driving your fast RC car!

Head Tracker can be connected to any modern RC transmitter (radio) with trainer function (PPM protocol). To the master radio, the head tracker looks like a student radio, so pan and tilt channels can be mixed and re-mapped as any other channels coming from a student radio. The channels then forwarded to your model (plane, car, etc) and control camera gimbal servos.

The head tracker can also connect to some modern radios via wireless trainer link (Bluetooth, PARA protocol), if the radio supports that. This is quite awesome, since you skip having cables hanging around.

Wirelessly, the head tracker can also connect to our RCHub: USB-to-PPM Converter. This way you can have both: USB controller (Joystick? Steering wheel?) and head tracking! RCHub does the mixing for you and forwards result to radio via PPM trainer cable.

You still need to power the board somehow though. One option is to use USB C output on your goggles and a short USB C-to-USB C cable. Another option is to use a small 1 cell LiPo battery.

You may want to design and print an enclosure or holder for the board, but that is not strictly necessary, just use a velcro or double-side tape.

We constantly improve our head tracking firmware, and it is very easy to be up-to-date -- just plug in the board to your computer and it shows up as a storage device (think SD card). After that all you need to do is to copy over new firmware release file. Done! No extra configurator software to install and maintain.
